At least four people were injured Tuesday during a graduation ceremony in downtown Richmond, according to law enforcement sources.
CBS 6 reports that police sources said the incident happened at a Huguenot High School graduation, inside the Altria Theater. On Tuesday afternoon, VCU Police issued an alert regarding a shooting incident near Monroe Park.
The park, located on the VCU campus in downtown Richmond, is home to the theater, where Richmond Public Schools hold their high school graduation ceremonies. Witnesses said the shooting was reported as the graduation ceremony was drawing to a close.
Images and videos captured at the scene reportedly show a large police presence, both inside and outside the theater.
Richmond Public Schools released a statement following the shooting, rescheduling an upcoming graduation ceremony for a different high school.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the Thomas Jefferson High School Class of 2023 graduation ceremony scheduled for tonight has been canceled due to an incident that occurred this evening after an earlier graduation,” the statement said.

“The ceremony will be rescheduled and we will provide further updates soon. We apologize for any inconvenience to our graduates and their families.”
Police are asking people to avoid the area at this time. No suspects are yet in custody.
