On Monday, a Missouri man was arrested for shooting a 16-year-old boy last week after the child mistakenly came to his home to pick up his younger siblings.
WDAF reported that Andrew Lester, 84, was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. Kansas City police said that on April 13, Ralph Yarl accidentally went to Lester’s home and Lester allegedly shot him twice.
The family’s attorney said Yarl was shot in the head and arm. Yarl did not enter Lester’s home and Lester allegedly shot the teen through a glass door.
“I can tell you there was a racial component,” Clay County Prosecutor Zachary Thompson said in a statement issued to WDAF.
Yarl is reportedly out of the hospital and is recovering, as CrimeOnline previously reported.
