Spit on Sidewalk Leads to Arrest in 36-Year-Old Cold Case Murder of Massachusetts Woman

Four bodies were discovered while police were conducting a requested welfare check.

West Greenwich Police found four individuals with gunshot wounds at a home on Cheyenne Trails in West Greenwich, Rhode Island, on Friday during a welfare check, according to the Providence Journal.

Chief Richard Ramsay of the West Greenwich Police stated, “There is no pending danger to the community,” because the shootings appeared to be an “isolated incident.”

NBC10 spoke to a neighbor who said that a family of four lived at that residence: a mother, father, and two children.

“I woke up around 11 o’clock to cops banging on my door,” Brendan Schuster told NBC10. “I was very confused, very startled. Seeing all this now, I just hope everyone’s okay.”

Another neighbor mentioned to NBC10 that the family kept to themselves.

“The family in the house was really quiet,” the neighbor said. “They always stuck to themselves.”

Once the Office of the State Medical Examiner’s investigation is complete next week, the police will have more information to share. For now, Ramsay had no further comments.

“I’ve been in law enforcement for 35 years. This is probably one of the worst things I’ve had to deal with. In a community like ours, you really don’t expect it, but these things do happen, and we’re going to do our best to determine what happened,” West Greenwich Police Chief Richard Ramsay said.

The names of the deceased have not yet been released.
