Detroit-Area Hospital Employee Shot by Colleague in Parking Garage

At least one person was shot Thursday morning at a suburban Detroit hospital in a targeted shooting at the facility’s parking garage.

According to WXYZ, the suspect — a hospital employee — was taken into custody shortly after a police news conference about the shooting. Police said they arrived at a home in Macomb Township, called the suspect on the phone, and he came outside and was arrested.

Earlier, Troy Police Lt. Ben Hancock said the victim, a 25-year-old man, was hit twice in the arm and was in stable condition. Hancock said he and the male shooter were both employees of the hospital.

“We know who we’re looking for,” he said, adding that the victim had identified the shooter.

Hancock said the hospital and local schools were put on lockdown as investigators swarmed the area looking for the shooter.

The gunman fired five rounds at the victim, Hancock said. Some of the rounds hit the victim’s vehicle. He could not say what prompted the shooting but said the victim and the attacker were known to each other.

The hospital said it had put the facility on lockdown and that the victim was receiving treatment in the emergency room, advising that everyone avoid the area and call if they had services scheduled, WXYZ reported.

This is a developing story. Check back for details.
