Murcher charges have been dismissed against a Georgia man, and now an investigation is underway to determine if the lead detective involved in the case acted improperly.
According to Channel 2 Action News, Marquis Parrish, 29, was taken into custody in 2021 for his alleged involvement in the death of Charles Vinson, who vanished several weeks prior in Savannah. On Friday, the state made the decision to drop all charges against Parrish and officially declared the case as “closed without further prosecution.”
According to court documents, investigators interviewed Parrish following his bond release and determined he was likely telling the truth. The state indicated that it “does not believe it can prove the charges against him beyond a reasonable doubt.”
ABC 22 reports that the conduct of the lead detective involved in the case is now under investigation by the Savannah Police Department, for any potential misconduct or irregularities in the handling of the investigation.
The victim, according to police, was found deceased in April 2021, in the 2900 block of Julia Law Street in Savannah. At the time, four people, including Parrish, were arrested and charged for the death.

The victim’s family was notified about the dropped charges against Parrish and reportedly have no objections.
