Delphi Murders: Accused Killer Richard Allen’s Attorneys Want the Public to Pay for Legal Defense Expenses

Attorneys representing accused Delphi murderer Richard Allen filed a motion Tuesday, in an attempt to block the state from presenting crucial evidence during his upcoming murder trial.

Defense lawyers Brad A. Rozzi and Andrew J. Baldwin filed a “motion in limine regarding ballistics,” which seeks to throw out ballistic evidence from the trial. The attorneys are pushing for a ruling that deems the examination of firearms and ammunition connected to the case as inadmissible.

Allen is currently behind bars in connection with the 2017 murders of Libby German, 14, and Abigail Williams, 14. The victims were found murdered near the Monon High Bridge in Delphi after taking an outing to the bridge the day prior.

Fox 59 reports that while the specific details of the sealed motion remain undisclosed, certain ballistic evidence implicating Allen has been publicly revealed. According to court documents, the Indiana State Police crime laboratory confirmed that an unfired round found between the bodies of the victims came from Allen’s gun.

Allen’s attorneys previously raised concerns in December 2022 about the bullet analysis that allegedly linked the defendant to the murders.

Judge Fran Gull is expected to make a ruling on the sealed motion in limine, which will determine whether the prosecution’s ballistic evidence will be admitted and presented during the trial.

Allen’s next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday at the Carroll Circuit Court.

Meanwhile, detectives continue to ask anyone who may have additional information about the case to email abbyandlibbytip@cacoshrf.com or call 765-822-3535.
