Abby Williams, Libby German

Accused Delphi killer Richard Allen’s defense lawyers made an unexpected disclosure during Tuesday’s jury selection for his murder trial.

FOX 59 reports that the defense team revealed that hair found in Abby Williams’ hand did not match Allen’s. This is the first time this information has been made public. Attorney Andrew Baldwin shared the details during opening remarks before jury selection.

Allen faces four murder charges connected to the deaths of Abby Williams and her friend Libby German in February 2017. Indiana State Police arrested him in October 2022, as CrimeOnline previously reported.

Prosecutors asserted that an unspent bullet discovered at the scene belonged to Allen’s gun and point to numerous confessions he made. Allen’s defense team argues the confessions were coerced and therefore unreliable.

They also claim Allen confessed to incorrect details about the crime and admitted to other crimes that never occurred, according to the defense.

Allen’s defense, citing the case’s attention, sought a venue change. Special Judge Fran Gull, assigned by the Indiana Supreme Court after the initial judge withdrew, said it would pose logistical difficulties.

The victims vanished while hiking along the Monon High Bridge trail in February 2017, in Delphi.

Their bodies were discovered the next day and Allen, a local resident and pharmacist, was arrested and charged with their murders more than five years later.
