Police released additional details this week in connection with a Washington state man accused of killing his 8-month-old son last month.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Dion Lamar Montgomery faces first-degree murder, homicide, and unlawful possession of firearm charges. He stands accused of fatally shooting his infant son, Alaisea Matai Montgomery, while the infant slept.

Officers arrived at the intersection of 22nd Avenue West and Thorndyke Avenue West in Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood last month at around 6:30 p.m. According to a probable cause document, two people reported being shot at by a man who then fled the scene, later identified as Montgomery.

Police said Montgomery fired multiple shots at people outside his home before killing his son, resulting in the assault and an additional firearm charge.

Officers then entered Montgomery’s apartment and discovered Alaisea seated in a rocker, with a gunshot wound to his eye. Despite attempts at medical intervention, the victim was already deceased, police said.

Evidence showed the victim was shot at close range.

Montgomery’s wife (the victim’s mother) told investigators she was in the bathroom of their apartment when Mongomery walked into the residence and went to a bedroom. Upon hearing a gunshot, she questioned him but Montgomery claimed, “It was a blank.”

During interrogation, Montgomery remained unresponsive to basic questions, but a drug recognition expert concluded that his behavior aligned with PCP consumption. A blood sample was then collected from Montgomery.

The Seattle Times reports that Montgomery admitted that he took PCP, which made him see “demons” and behave erratically.

Montgomery’s wife reportedly told police that he often kept a gun on him. She also claimed Montgomery sometimes gets a “weird look in his eyes” and acts differently, and that she stays away from him when that happens.

King County prosecutors said Montgomery has 16 prior arrests for offenses including assault and burglary.

He remains behind bars at the King County Jail with a bail set at $5 million. Prosecutors pushed for the high bail due to the severity of the charges and past instances of failing to appear in court.

Montgomery’s arraignment is scheduled for May 23. Check back for updates.
