On Wednesday, an Ohio grand jury indicted a man for raping and killing his 13-year-old daughter last month.
Kei’Mani Latigue’s father, Darnell Jones, 33, is charged in Lucas County with aggravated murder, first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping, second-degree endangering children, third-degree tampering with evidence, and first-degree aggravated burglary and fifth-degree gross abuse of a corpse. The Toledo Blade reported that four of the murder counts have specifications that make Jones eligible for the death penalty.
According to WTVG, the indictment claimed Jones kidnapped, raped, and killed Latigue between March 17 and 18. On March 23, Jones was charged with abducting Latigue from a Toledo home where she lived with her grandmother.
Latigue’s body was discovered in an abandoned building on March 24. Lucas County coroners believe she died from multiple incised wounds to the neck. Columbus police Lieutenant Brian Steel said she was raped, had her hands severed, and her throat nearly cut off.
Prosecutors previously said that Jones “admitted to this affiant that he inflicted the wound that caused her [Latigue’s] death. In a second affidavit filed the same day, Jones was also accused of telling authorities that he “dragged her involuntarily to the vacant house where he ultimately killed her.”
Jones remains jailed on a $4 million bond.
