A Florida man killed last week in a house fire lost his partner to murder in the same neighborhood in 2017, according to reports.
Dan Kane, 66, was killed in a house fire in Seminole Heights on September 18. Tampa police confirmed to WTVT that one person was detained at the scene of the fire, but their identity has not been disclosed.
Kane, a counselor, lost his longtime partner Bill Denham to murder in 2017. The Tampa Bay Times reported that Denham was beaten to death by strangers in a slaying that stemmed from Jadian Zeiders lying about Denham, a social worker, exposing himself to her.
Zeiders admitted that she fabricated the story to hide her infidelity from her boyfriend, Stephen Mitchell, who killed Denham.

Michell pleaded guilty last year to manslaughter and was sentenced to eight years. Zeiders pleaded guilty this year to second-degree murder and received a 12-year sentence.
Though Zeiders implicated a third person in Denham’s beating death, he died in December 2020 without being charged, according to The Tampa Bay Times.
Tampa police reportedly said that last week’s fire may lead to criminal charges. A resident told the Tampa Bay Times that at least three people who were staying with Kane made it out safely — including the person police detained.
Reports indicated that Kane’s house has been demolished as the cause of the deadly fire remains under investigation.
