Missing Mississippi Woman’s Car Found Burned, License Plate Removed

Mississippi police continue to search for a woman who disappeared Wednesday and could have been seriously injured.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, investigators found the burned-out car of Ebony Owens, 36, early Wednesday, some 12 to 14 hours after she was reported missing by her family. She was last seen near Interstate 20 in Clinton Tuesday night, the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office said.

Police now have reason to believe that she may have been “seriously harmed.” On Wednesday night, investigators found evidence that linked Ebony to the Ridgeland Ranch Apartments in Ridgeland and towed a vehicle from the area.

During a Thursday afternoon press conference, police said the fire set to Ebony’s car was intentional. Investigators are now wanting to talk to Ebony’s husband, Michael Owens, although he’s not considered a suspect at this time, and Ebony is not “believed to be” with him at this time.

“We will be returning to the scene to attempt to locate more evidence,” Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones, adding that Ebony is the mother of four children.

“We will continue to search Wester Hinds County near the Warren County line with assistance with our partners, hopefully, to find Ms. Owens.”
