A Missouri man was shot dead by police Friday morning after two murders and a child abduction the night before.
The Platte County Sheriff’s Office said police gunned down George Manning, 43, just after 7:30 a.m. Friday, hours after the night of terror began when he allegedly shot and killed a woman in a car wash parking lot, taking her car at about 11:15 p.m. on Thursday, KCTV reported.
Manning then allegedly drove to another home in northwestern Riverside, where he shot and killed a 12-year-old boy, seriously wounded a woman, and abducted a 5-year-old girl.
An Amber Alert was issued at that point.
Shortly before midnight, police in Kansas City, Kansas, received a call about shots fired at a bar and confirmed that a non-injury aggravated assault had taken place. Witnesses described the suspect at the bar, and their descriptions matched Manning, who left the bar on foot.
A few blocks away, however, a carjacking was reported.
At some point in the night, Manning apparently dropped the kidnapped girl off with family, and police located her just after 5 a.m. Manning returned to Platte County in a stolen vehicle and was located not far from the initial crime scenes on foot. He was killed in a subsequent shootout with police.
The family of the wounded woman, who was the mother of the boy who was killed, released a statement to KSHB identifying them as Mercedes Ontiveros and her son Giuliani Calderon.
According to the station, Manning was the father of the abducted girl. The name of the woman killed at the car wash has not been released.
