Convicted child killer Letecia Stauch has been transferred to a Kansas prison, following her conviction earlier this year for the death of her 11-year-old stepson, Gannon Stauch.

The Colorado Department of Corrections confirmed Monday morning that Stauch was transferred from the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility in Colorado to a Kansas prison.

Although it’s unclear why she was moved or which prison she was sent to, the Kansas Department of Corrections currently has only one prison that houses female inmates: the Topeka Correctional Facility, according to KKTV 11 News.

“CDOC regularly utilizes interstate transfers to manage our population and to best protect the safety and security of our facilities,” Colorado Department of Corrections spokesperson Annie Skinner told The Colorado Gazette.

Stauch’s attorney, Josh Tolini, said he’s not sure why Stauch was transferred, but if he had to guess, it could be due to safety reasons, following the high-profile murder trial.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Stauch stabbed, beat, shot, and killed her stepson inside the family’s Fountain home in January 2020. She then took great measures to cover up her crimes, by blaming numerous imaginary people and driving to Florida, where she tossed Gannon’s body, stuffed inside a suitcase, over a bridge in Pace.

Prosecutors said Stauch was upset about her marriage and burdened with taking care of her stepchildren, as referenced to search queries found on her phone. Gannon’s father was away at work with the US National Guard, leaving Stauch to take care of Gannon and his younger sister when the murder happened.

A jury convicted Stauch of first-degree murder after a 6-week trial that ended in May.

Stauch requested after her conviction to be placed at the San Carlos prison in Pueblo, but a judge told her it wasn’t up to him and he wouldn’t provide a recommendation even if it were.
