A Colorado mother is facing charges of murder and child abuse in the death of her 2-month-old baby boy on Saturday.
Boulder Police said they were called for a welfare check Saturday afternoon, with witnesses concerned about Anna Louise Englund, 30, who they said had taken the infant and driven away in her car.
Police issued a statewide “attempt to locate” bulletin and launched a search for Englund and the baby. Shortly before 10:30 p.m. — about six hours after the initial call — her vehicle was found en route to Boulder Community Hospital. Officers caught up with her in the hospital parking lot and rushed the baby into the emergency room, where he was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later.
“Our hearts are with the child’s family during this terrible and difficult time,” said Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold. “This is a tragic situation, and we are thinking about the child’s loved ones as they grieve all that has happened.”

Detectives are working to piece together what happened during the six hours Englund and the baby were missing, and the coroner will provide a cause and manner of death.
Englund has been jailed on suspicion of first degree murder and child abuse resulting in death and is being held without bond. No further information was available.
