Colorado Man Charged With Kidnapping 17-Year-Old Boy After Car Crash

A Colorado man has been charged with kidnapping and other counts after he was allegedly involved in a 2-car crash with a 17-year-old boy and drove the boy around for hours afterward, refusing his requests to take him to his grandparents’ home.

The boy’s grandfather called Grand Junction Police shortly before noon on Thursday and said that his grandson had been involved in a crash at about 7:30 a.m.

The teen told his grandfather that the other driver, later identified as 58-year-old Rex Schiesser, had told him he’d help him fix the tire that was damaged. They drove to a tire store, where Schiesser bought the tire, but then drove around the area with the teen in his car for several hours, despite the boy’s repeatedly asking to be dropped off at his grandparents’ home.

Eventually, Schiesser drove the boy back to the crash site and left after the boy changed his tire. The boy returned home at that point, and the grandfather called police.

At about the same time, police were called about “a swerving truck pulling a camper” and connected that to the teen’s crash. The driver initially eluded police but was eventually stopped and taken into custody.

Schiesser has been charged with kidnapping, reckless endangerment, eluding, false imprisonment, DUI, reckless driving, disregarding a stop sign, and hit and run.
