- Neighbours and firefighters were injured
A man has died and three others were rushed to hospital after a horror house fire in North Queensland.
Emergency services raced to Clayton Street in the Townsville suburb of Hermit Park about 11.15pm on Tuesday night.
Neighbours recalled being woken by two loud bangs moments before the house was fully engulfed by flames.
A man trapped inside the burning home was unable to be saved, despite the frantic efforts of neighbours who tried to save him but were hampered by the inferno.
One neighbour who sustained burns to his head and hands was later taken to hospital.

A man aged in his 40s with a laceration to his arm and a firefighter suffering from smoke inhalation were also transported to hospital.
They all remain in stable conditions.
‘I saw a man come out with burns…he was under the house across the street hosing himself down before paramedics arrived,’ one resident told the Townsville Bulletin.
Firefighters located the man’s body in the gutted debris after the blaze was extinguished.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and a crime scene has been declared.
Fire crews remained at the scene on Wednesday morning.
Investigations are ongoing.
