Inset: Robyn Rogers (Lake Havasu City Police Department). Background: Neighborhood near State Highway 95 and Palo Verde Boulevard in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, where police say they found a missing 17-year-old Rogers allegedly kept in her house (Google Maps).
Robyn Rogers, 44, a cheer coach and child development teacher at a charter school in Arizona, is under arrest and facing charges that she hid and sexually abused a 17-year-old boy who was reported missing after he ran away from home in February, according to police.
The 17-year-old was found last week near a home by State Highway 95 and Palo Verde Boulevard. According to local news outlet AZFamily, during an interview with Rogers by Lake Havasu City Police, the boy was seen running out of the back of the house. Police chased and apprehended him.
She faces three counts of sexual conduct with a minor as well as a hindering prosecution charge and charges of false reporting to law enforcement. The 44-year-old woman was also charged with possession of narcotic drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Law&Crime attempted to reach Telesis Preparatory Academy on Thursday by email and phone and a spokesperson said Rogers was no longer employed at the academy.
It was reported by Today’s News-Herald that Rogers was listed as a teacher for Telesis Preparatory Academy in Lake Havasu City until July 12 when, according to the outlet, her name no longer appeared on the school’s staff directory list. A cached version of the page, however showed that Telesis listed her as a cheerleading coach, a teacher in child development and life skills, a school athletic liaison and a board of directors liaison. A superintendent for the school district told Today’s News-Herald that Rodgers was no longer employed with the charter school.
Rogers is currently booked at the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office on a $30,000 bond. It is unclear whether she has retained an attorney and a request by Law&Crime for records or bond details was not immediately returned.
When police reportedly spoke to Rogers at the home on Highway 95 and Palo Verde, investigators came away with the impression that the 17-year-old boy and the 44-year-old woman had a sexual relationship and that she was harboring him after he ran away from his home on Feb. 14, also celebrated as Valentine’s Day, AZFamily reported.
Investigators only knew to show up at the Lake Havasu City property because of witness tips they received.
