Charlotte Sena’s kidnapper Craig Ross Jr. was investigated for allegedly sexually abusing another child last month, but police closed the case when he denied it.

According to The Times Union, Ross Jr. was reported to police earlier this year over claims he sexually abused a female relative when she was 12.

The alleged crime happened last year, but was only just reported. When questioned, Craig Ross Jr. denied the allegations and the case was closed.

It’s unclear if that case will be reopened now that he is in custody for snatching Charlotte, a nine-year-old who was taken from her bicycle during a family camping trip at Moreau Lake State Park last week.

Charlotte had asked her parents if she could ride around Loop A, near where their tent was, last week at 6.15pm. By 6.30pm, she was gone.

At 4.20am on Monday morning, Ross Jr. dropped off a ransom note at her parents’ home in Porters Corner.

He demanded $50,000 in the note, which police believe Charlotte may have been forced to write herself.

The New York State Trooper stationed at the house to watch for such activity had been called away on a different incident at the exact moment Ross Jr. appeared.

There is now an investigation into whether he could have been apprehended at that moment, rather than 14 hours later.

It took until 2.30pm on Monday for police to match a fingerprint from the ransom note to Ross Jr.

It then took another four hours for them to track him down to his mother Joan’s home and the trailer in her backyard where Charlotte was found in a bedroom cabinet.
