Cause of Death Revealed for Pregnant Georgia Teen Found Strangled at 16

The official cause of death for a 16-year-old pregnant Georgia girl has been released.

The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Mia Campos, 16, died from “asphyxia due to neck compression.” Campos’ autopsy confirmed she was 38 weeks pregnant at the time of her death, according to WSBTV.

Campos, seven months pregnant, vanished in June, WSBTV reported.

As previously reported by CrimeOnline, Campos’ family tracked her cellphone and found her body less than a mile from their Gwinnett County home. Campos left home with an unknown person the day before her body was discovered on July 15, according to WANF.

Campos’ ex-boyfriend, Jesus Monroy, 20, was initially charged with lying to police when Campos’ body was found.

On July 23, Gwinnett County Police upgraded the charges against Monroy to malice murder, felony murder, feticide, and aggravated assault, according to WXIA.

An arrest warrant revealed that Monroy, the baby’s father, lured Campos to the entrance of her neighborhood and killed her by asphyxiation, WANF reported.

In August, Monroy was granted bond while awaiting trial.
