Car Thief Who Ran Over Dad of 2, Killing Him, Caught in Virginia Beach

Virginia authorities say they have arrested a suspected car thief who ran over and killed a father of two trying to stop the theft of his own vehicle.

Keith Anthony McBride, 41, was taken into custody in Virginia Beach on Friday, the Prince William County Police Department said in a Facebook post.

McBride has been charged with felony murder, felony hit and run, and grand larceny auto for the incident that killed 37-year-old Jose Vasquez Galvan a week ago.

Police said that Vasquez Galvan was picking up a package from the leasing office of his gated community in Dumfries at about 7 p.m. when a man jumped behind the wheel of his still-running 1999 Lexius 300 SUV and began driving away, as CrimeOnline reported. Vasquez Galvan grabbed onto the vehicle as the thief began to drive in reverse, striking an unoccupied vehicle. He switched to drive forward, throwing Vasquez Galvan off the vehicle and running over him.

The thief drove away from the area before police arrived. Vasquez Galvan was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Prince William police said they found the stolen SUV on Tuesday and obtained surveillance images of a suspect, who was subsequently identified as McBride.

Virginia Beach Police located and arrested McBride in that city, 180 miles from Dumfries, Prince William Police said.
