CAPTURED! Fugitive Accused of Killing Deputy Caught in Tennessee

A fugitive wanted for killing a Tennessee deputy and wounding another was taken into custody Tuesday in Knoxville.

The Blount County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Kenneth DeHart in a social media post with photos that showed what appeared to be a residential neighborhood.

Investigators launched a manhunt for DeHart on Thursday night after he allegedly opened fire during a traffic stop in Maryville, killing Greg McCowan and wounding Shelby Eggers, as CrimeOnline reported. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation placed DeHart on its Most Wanted list and obtained warrants for his arrest charging him with first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, and felon in possession of a weapon.

In the course of the search, investigators arrested DeHart’s brother and girlfriend on accessory after the fact charges, WATE reported. The brother, Marcus DeHart, is being held on a $1 million bond, while the girlfriend, Carrie Mathews, posted a $350,000 bail and was released.

Earlier on Tuesday, TBI put DeHart’s photo up on digital billboards across the southeast.

Rewards for information leading to DeHart’s capture and conviction reached more than $100,000, although it’s not been announced how law enforcement located him.

DeHart was located at a home in east Knoxville not far from the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum and was booked into the Blount County Jail shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday. He has not yet faced a judge.
