Cops Searching for Woman Who Disappeared While Hiking Find Body on Trail

A man was reportedly arrested in Oklahoma Friday for the last year’s murder of Rachel Morin in Maryland.

According to the Baltimore Banner, Victor Martinez-Hernandez was arrested in Tulsa in connection with Morin’s sexual assault and slaying. Police in Hartford County, Maryland, confirmed the break in Morin’s case in a press conference Saturday.

Morin’s body was found in a drainage ditch on the Ma and Pa trail on August 6, a day after her boyfriend reported her missing.

DNA from Morin’s crime scene linked her suspected killer to an unsolved home invasion and assault of a young girl which occurred in Los Angeles, California, in March. The suspect in those crimes remains unidentified, even after police publicized surveillance stills of him home leaving a Los Angeles home in March.

In that case, Hartford Police Captain Andy Lane said the suspect entered the home and attacked multiple people, including a child. A young family member reportedly entered the room and surprised the suspect before forcing him out of the residence, shutting and locking the door, and calling the police.

The suspect is believed to be 5 foot, 9 inches tall, weighs 160 pounds, and is in his early-to-mid 20s. A sketch of the alleged suspect shows him with a red Nike cap like the one he left at the Los Angeles crime scene.

A $35,000 reward is being offered for information leading to Morin’s killer.
