An investigation is underway in Indiana after bones were discovered on Monday after someone allegedly confessed to killing two children.

According to WFLD, cadaver dogs discovered bone fragments at three spots on a Wheatfield property. The discovery comes nearly two weeks after Jasper County police learned that someone told acquaintances about killing their two undocumented children and burning their bodies in a backyard fire pit at their Wheatfield home.

Police reportedly located the suspect or suspects at a hotel in Newton County. At that time, an unregistered child who was in the suspects’ care was placed in protective custody.

Though the suspect or suspects denied the allegations, a search of their cellphones uncovered additional information that led law enforcement to the Wheatfield property on Monday, according to WLS.

Speaking with the news outlet, the coroner said it could take weeks to confirm whether the bone fragments belong to a human.

Reports indicated that the home searched on Monday is a rental property. Police said the tenant, who has lived there a few months, does not appear involved in the ongoing investigation.

No arrests have been made, as it is unclear whether a crime has been committed.
