Bodycam: Fire department officials save suspected car thief who allegedly leaped off bridge

Two suspected car thieves jumped off a bridge to evade law enforcement, but it was to tragic result, according to documents out of Missouri. As seen on bodycam, Dekayo Demetrius Patterson, 21, survived, although first responders had to save him from the railing of the Blanchette Bridge in St. Charles County.

The other man did not make it. From Missouri State Highway Patrol about the 23-year-old found dead in the Missouri River on Sept. 10:

VICTIM 1 WAS FOUND TO BE FLOATING IN THE MISSOURI RIVER NEAR THE 29.5 MILE MARKER, NEAR THE ST. CHARLES COUNTY SHORELINE. VICTIM 1 WAS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN AN INCIDENT AFTER ATTEMPTED CONTACT BY LAW ENFORCEMENT AND JUMPED OFF OF EASTBOUND INTERSTATE 70, BLANCHETTE BRIDGE.

According to court documents viewed by Law&Crime, a trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tried to pull over a black Honda Accord and a green Dodge Challenger on the Blanchette Bridge on Sept. 8. The driver of the Challenger, while wearing a ski mask, jumped out the driver’s window and got into the front passenger seat of the Accord. The Challenger had no plates, authorities said.
