Police on Long Island are investigating after several body parts — belonging to a man and a woman — were found in a park in Suffolk County on Thursday.

According to the county medical examiner, a woman’s head, parts of two legs, and an arm, and two arms belonging to a man were found, WABC reported.

The discovery bgan Thursday morning when a group of teenagers found a arm on the edge of Southard Pond Park. A girl in the group called her father, who called 911.

Police arrived and soon found a second arm about 20 feet from where the teens found the first arm. Both arms appeared to be from a man, they said.

Further searches using cadaver dogs found the woman’s body parts on the opposite side of the park, not far from Babylon Elementary School.

Police said the man’s arms had tattoos, and they are checking the designs against databases to see if they can find a match. The woman’s remains did not have tattoos.

Police said they believe both victims were adults.  Det. Lt. Kevin Beyrer said investigators believe the remains belong to two individuals and said they don’t believe they were on the ground long before they were found.

“It appears to be a small amount of days, if not hours, the [remains] were out here,” he said, according to WNYW.
