‘Blow their heads off’: Woman points real-looking rifle at ‘petrified’ teen boys for fishing near her backyard — but it wasn’t her property, cops say

Donna Elkins (Brevard County Jail).

A Florida woman is accused of pointing a pellet gun that looked like a real firearm at two teens who she thought were fishing in her backyard.

Donna Elkins, 59, is facing two counts of aggravated assault. According to a probable cause arrest affidavit by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Elkins called 911 on March 28 and said she had “petrified” two boys, ages 13 and 15, who were fishing in the pond behind her home in the 500 block of Royston Drive. She reportedly said she had “stopped them and they were laying on the ground.”

The deputies responded and spoke with Elkins. She told them she approached the boys with a pellet gun in an attempt to “scare them,” the affidavit said.

Cops spoke with the two boys who said they were trying to fish when the defendant came up and allegedly said she was going to “blow their heads off.” They said they “feared for their life and believed violence was going to take place,” deputies wrote. Elkins allegedly ordered the boys to the ground and said they couldn’t leave. The boys said they did not feel comfortable getting up because of the presence of the perceived firearm, per cops.

A witness who was with the boys told cops she saw the boys drop to the ground after the defendant pointed the gun at them, the affidavit said. The witness said Elkins continued to walk toward the boys while yelling. It appeared they were “in fear of their lives,” the witness reportedly said.

Elkins’ husband came outside and “disarmed” his wife to diffuse the situation, the affidavit said. Cops recovered the pellet gun.

Orlando Fox affiliate WOFL talked to the boys who said they didn’t think it was a pellet gun Elkins was holding.

“In my head, it was a real gun,” the 15-year-old said. “That she was going to shoot us and kill us and the fact that she was saying she was going to blow our heads off, you can’t do that with a pellet gun. I really thought it was real.”
