Bijou Phillips Files for Divorce From Danny Masterson

Less than two weeks after standing by her husband’s side as he was sentenced to 30 years to life for rape, Bijou Phillips has filed for divorce from actor Danny Masterson.

According to TMZ, Phillips wrote in court documents filed on Monday that “irreconcilable differences” are causing the end of their 12-year marriage. She is asking for spousal support, attorneys’ fees, and for her legal name to be restored to Bijou Philips. She is also asking for legal and physical custody of the couple’s 9-year-old daughter and says she will allow visitation for the girl’s father.

“Ms. Phillips has decided to file for divorce from her husband during this unfortunate time,” her attorney, Peter A. Lauzon, said. “Her priority remains with her daughter.”

“This period has been unimaginably hard on the marriage and the family. Mr. Masterson was always present for Ms. Phillips during her most difficult times of her life. Ms. Phillips acknowledges that Mr. Masterson is a wonderful father to their daughter.”

Masterson, star of “That 70s Show,” was convicted in May on two counts of rape, as CrimeOnline previously reported. The same jury did not convict him on a third count of rape involving his girlfriend in 2001.

Masterson’s attorneys they have identified “a number of significant evidentiary and constitutional issues” on which to appeal.

Three years after the birth of their daughter, Phillips announced that she had been dealing with kidney disease for years, ET said. She received a kidney transplant in April 2017.

Phillips, who appeared in such films as “Bully” and “Almost Famous” and the television series “Raising Hope,” is the half-sister of actors Mackenzie Phillips and Chynna Phillips. Her father is the Mamas & the Papas singer and guitarist John Phillips, and her mother is South African actor and singer Genevieve Waite.
