A man has died on the street in Adelaide after passersby desperately tried to save him.

Emergency services rushed to Barrpowell St in Welland, in the city’s west, about 1.30am on Wednesday after the man was found unresponsive.

Witnesses tried to help the man but he died at the scene. 

Major crime officers, crime scene investigators and western district detectives remained at the scene later Wednesday morning.

Barrpowell St and Musgrave Ave have been closed as the investigation into the circumstances of the man’s death continue.

Anyone with information or CCTV footage of the area has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
