An Iowa man is facing murder charges for allegedly killing a fellow patron outside a bar after a fight and then waiting by the body until police arrived.

Alan Schultz, 37, of Bedford, is charged with first-degree murder in Taylor County, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation said in a press release on Thursday. Investigators say he killed 19-year-old Colby Nelson in the early morning hours of July 4 after a confrontation at the Bootleggers Bar & Grill in Clearfield.

A probable cause affidavit detailed what police say led up to Nelson’s death.

“It was learned that Schultz and Nelson had a disagreement in the bar earlier in the night,” the criminal complaint says. “An argument also took place outside the bar when Schultz went to leave.”
