Attorneys representing creditors of Rudy Giuliani on Friday said they plan to subpoena the former New York City mayor’s spokesperson in order to ascertain a bevy of financial details – including certain potential assets and liabilities – as his bankruptcy case moves on.
The notice of intent filed by the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors, is substantially similar in form and function to other subpoenas issued so far – including a recent subpoena to the conservative, pro-Trump cable news network Newsmax.
The latest subpoena is directed at Giuliani’s longtime spokesperson, Ted Goodman, who has also served as his political adviser.
The filing shows the creditors’ attorneys are interested in obtaining all documents and communications “concerning any fundraising efforts conducted by, on behalf of, or for the benefit of the Debtor or any Giuliani Defense Fund,” including any documents “related” to Goodman’s potential “participation in those efforts.”

The filing also looks to obtain any documents or communications in Goodman’s possession “regarding any contracts each of the Debtor Related Entities has entered into, whether oral or written, formal or informal, relating to business dealings, advertisements, endorsements or any other sources of income.”
Specifically, the creditors’ attorneys want to gauge the extent of documents or communications Goodman might have access to “regarding the total revenue, yearly revenue and monthly revenue received by any of the Debtor Related Entities, including, but not limited to, revenue received from Common Sense, Uncovering the Truth, The Rudy Giuliani Show, America’s Mayor Live, the Debtor’s appearances on any Media Outlets and from the provision or facilitation of security, legal or consulting services.”
The creditors are also looking to pry into Goodman’s own arrangements with regard to the man formerly called hizzoner.
From the filing at length:
All Documents and Communications concerning any contracts, agreements, Payments, Transfers, Gifts, or distributions of any Assets between You and (i) the Debtor, (ii) any Debtor Related Entity, (iii) any other entity that the Debtor owns, operates, manages or benefits from (directly or indirectly), (iv) any Giuliani Defense Fund, (v) any Debtor Related Person or (vi) any employees, associates or Professionals of the Debtor, any Debtor Related Entity or any Giuliani Defense Fund.
Notably, the filing also anticipates Goodman might have the goods on Giuliani’s finances as the relate to the Republican Party and its presumptive presidential nominee. The subpoena aims to obtain all documents or communications related to “expenses, fees, or other amounts owed to the Debtor, any Debtor Related Entity or any Giuliani Defense Fund by Donald J. Trump, his campaign or the Republican National Committee.”
The creditors also seem to believe Giuliani might have tried to avail himself of some COVID-19 pandemic relief funds.
The Goodman subpoena seeks all documents or communications “concerning any actual or potential application (whether or not submitted) for a private loan, including, but not limited to, funds offered through the Paycheck Protection Program, by or on behalf of the Debtor or any Debtor Related Entity.”
Just because any given request is made regarding any given topic, however, does not mean the subject of any given subpoena necessarily has such documents in their possession – or that any such documents ever did, or do, exist.
Law&Crime reached out to Goodman for comment on this story but no response was immediately forthcoming as of the time of publication.
