Baltimore Orioles Greeter, 75, Found Dead in Container Nearly 5 Months After She Disappeared

Baltimore police have identified human remains found in a container near a vacant church earlier this month as Baltimore Orioles employee Versey Spell, who disappeared last fall.

Spell, a 75-year-old game day greeter at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, was reported missing on October 19. She was last seen at her home in northwest Baltimore.

Police were called to the 3900 block of Liberty Heights Avenue on March 7 to a “black container containing possible human remains.” The container was located just a few blocks from Spell’s apartment.

The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide and earlier this week, confirmed the identity.

The Orioles issued a statement saying they were “saddened to hear” the news,” the Baltimore Sun reported.

“Our Orioles family sends heartfelt condolences to her family and friends,” the team said. “We will miss her warm welcomes at the ballpark.”

Bettea Brown-Wilson, Spell’s sister, told WJZ that Spell had worked for the federal Department of Veteran’s Affairs before retiring. She recalls going to her sister’s apartment and finding it in disarray after she disappeared.

Family members said Spell’s door was forced open and there was a strange woman in her bed. Her cane and walker were inside, but her glasses and other personal items were found outside.

Brown-Wilson doesn’t know who killed her sister, but she has a message for them.

“I just think it’s real evil,” she said. “I hope you find your heart to regret it. [I hope] you feel some remorse, but it’s done now.”
