A seven-week old baby has been hospitalised in Central Queensland following an alleged domestic violence attack.

Queensland Police opened in investigation into the incident after the baby was taken to a hospital in Moranbah, 190km southwest of Mackay, with significant injuries on Tuesday.

Officers arrested a 23-year-old Moranbah man on Wednesday and charged him with one count of grievous bodily harm, domestic violence offence.

He is expected to appear at Moranbah Magistrates Court on Thursday.
