New Jersey Lawyer Charged With Serial Rapes in Boston

A New York attorney charged with four sexual assaults in Boston’s Charlestown neighborhood 15 years ago has now been indicted for assaults against five more women in the same time period.

The new indictments charge Matthew Nilo with rape aggravated rape, assault with intent to rape, and indecent assault and battery on an person over 14, all in Boston’s North End between January 2007 and July 2008, WCVB reported. One of the victims, the station said, was attacked twice in January 2008 over 11 days.

The five attacks took place in January 2007, July 2007, January 2008, and July 2008. The Charlestown attacks took place in August and November 2007 and August and December 2008.

Nilo grew up in the North End. He pleaded not guilty in early June to three counts of aggravated rape, two counts of kidnapping, one count of assault with intent to rape, and one count of indecent assault and battery. He was released from jail on June 15 after his girlfriend paid his bail.

Nilo went to college in Madison, Wisconsin, graduated law school in San Francisco, and now lives in New Jersey. Police in Madison said they were currently looking to see if any unsolved cases there could be connected to him.

Nilo’s attorney released a statement on Tuesday saying he “denies all the allegations including the latest charges. You can expect both a legal and factual challenge to the government’s case.”
