A German court has issued an arrest warrant for the prime suspect in the unsolved disappearance of Madeleine McCann, a British toddler who vanished from a resort in Portugal in 2007.
According to The Independent, Christian Brückner’s arrest warrant pertains to a series of sex crimes involving children in Portugal. Brückner, 45, a convicted sex offender, is charged in Portugal with five counts of sexual assault.
Brückner was allegedly in Praia da Luz, Portugal, at the time of McCann’s disappearance. McCann was three when she vanished from her bedroom while vacationing at the Portuguese resort with her parents and family friends.
Brueckner has not been charged in connection with McCann’s unsolved disappearance, despite German prosecutors naming him a suspect in 2020. He is currently serving a seven-year sentence for raping an elderly American woman in Portugal in 2005.
In 2017, Brückner allegedly told a friend he “knew all about” what had happened to McCann.

The Independent reported that Brückner was formally charged in October with sex crimes that occurred in Portugal between 2000 and 2017. In three instances, Brückner allegedly abducted and raped the victims. He is also accused of exposing himself to young children.
