A yoga instructor who fled to Costa Rica after allegedly gunning down a professional bicyclist she saw as a romantic rival tried to escape again but this time was chased down on foot by corrections officers.
Kaitlin Armstrong, 35, is charged with the death of Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson, 25, in May 2022 at a friend’s house where she was staying for a race in Austin, Texas, as CrimeOnline reported.
Wilson allegedly had a fling with Armstrong’s boyfriend, fellow cyclist Colin Strickland, while the two were separated. Prosecutors say Armstrong believed they were still having an affair when Wilson was killed, just after Strickland dropped her off at the friend’s house after the pair had gone swimming together.
As police investigated the murder, Armstrong sold her car and fled Texas. She was later found and arrested in Costa Rica, where she’d dyed her hair, had cosmetic surgery, and was teaching yoga under a different name.
Drew Knight, a spokesperson for the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, told Law&Crime that Armstrong was taken to a doctor’s appointment Wednesday morning.
“As she and two corrections officers were exiting the medical building after the appointment, Armstrong ran,” Knight said. “The officers pursued her on foot for approximately 10 minutes without ever losing sight of her.”
Armstrong was was taken to a local hospital for a quick evaluation after her capture and then taken back to jail. Knight did not disclose what type of doctor’s appointment Armstrong had scheduled and said it didn’t appear she was running anywhere specific.
According to court records, Armstrong’s trial is set for October 30.
