Human remains discovered on Wednesday are possibly a California woman who has been missing since January.

Alexis Gabe, 24, was last seen at her ex-boyfriend’s home in Antioch. Gabe’s family told KGO that volunteers found bones in Pioneer, though the remains have not been formally identified.

Gabe is believed to have been murdered by her ex-boyfriend, Marshall Jones, 27, who was killed in June by federal authorities in Washington who were trying to serve him an arrest warrant. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Jones charged authorities with a knife.

Following his death, Gabe’s family reportedly discovered a handwritten note in Jones’ sister’s trash can. Gabe’s parents said the note, which they believe was penned by Jones, included detailed instructions on how to get to Pioneer, the same city where the bones were discovered last week.

According to KGO, the volunteers gave the bones to the local police department for DNA analysis.
