Alabama Woman Charged With Running Over Man, Killing Him

An Alabama woman has been charged in connection with the death of a Mobile man in 2014.

Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood said that Charles “Bubba” Jackson, 33, was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by Bridgette Mathews, 42, who now stands charged with murder, WKRG reported.

“We know that Mathews and the victim were acquainted with one another,” Blackwood said. “We know that there are other people involved in this that knew Charles Jackson, and we are continuing to investigate this. We do not expect this to be the last arrest that’s made in the case.”

Jackson, whose body has never been found, disappeared on May 23, 2014. His last communication was a text: “Help.”

Blackwood said Jackson’s body was hidden at another location. He said investigators have the testimony of a number of witnesses, plus solid, physical evidence. It was enough to convince a grand jury.

“Some of those witnesses, a period of years ago, were not willing to cooperate,” Blackwood told WALA. “We were able to secure their cooperation through our work with the sheriff’s office.”

Blackwood said that further evidence is expected to be forthcoming.

Mathews was already in jail for violating probation on an escape charge.
