New Jersey Lawyer Charged With Serial Rapes in Boston

A Manhattan attorney charged with a series of rapes in Boston 15 years ago was released on bail on Thursday.

Court records said that Matthew Nilo’s fiancee paid the $500,000 bail after he agreed to conditions set by the court, WCVB reported.

Nilo, 35, pleaded not guilty last week to three counts of aggravated rape, two counts of kidnapping, one count of assault with intent to rape, and one count of indecent assault and battery, as CrimeOnline reported.

At his arraignment last week, prosecutors laid out their case and said they identified Nilo through familial DNA, connecting him with four assaults in Boston’s Charlestown area in 2007 and 2008. All four of the victims reported being threatened, two of them at gunpoint and one with knife.

To get out of jail, Nilo agreed to surrender his passport, wear a GPS monitor and have no contact with the victims or the areas of the assaults, WCVB said.

Lori Pinkham, one of the accusers, said Nilo’s release made her “sickened and afraid.”

“I’m in disbelief that he is back on the streets and also fear he will try and retaliate against me,” she said.

Nilo grew up in Boston and was working for a cyber insurance firm at the time of his arrest. The firm said this week it had suspended him.
