An Indiana judge has pushed back the trial of a man accused of killing two teen girls in Delphi until October.
The trial for Richard Allen, 51, accused of killing Libby German, 14, and Abby Williams, 13, is now set to begin on October 14, WPTA reported.
Jury selection in the trial had previously been set to begin on May 13. Allen was arrested on October 28, 2022, and charged with the murders of the two girls, who were found dead near the Monon High Bridge on February 14, 2017, after taking an outing to the bridge the day prior, as CrimeOnline reported.
Special Judge Fran Gull dropped kidnapping charges against Allen in March and left standing the murder charges against him after his attorneys argued that white nationalist pagans were the actual killers.
Gull is expected to rule soon on a complaint against Allen’s attorneys, Bradley Rozzi and Andrew Baldwin for allegedly leaking evidence on social media. They stepped down from the case late last year after Gull reprimanded them, but they were reinstated by the state Supreme Court.
According to WANE, Allen’s trial was originally set for October but Gull moved it to May when his attorneys invoked his right to a speedy trial. She pushed it back again on Tuesday when the attorneys withdrew their motion for a speedy trial and said they needed more time than the 15 days allotted for trial to present their case.
A hearing is scheduled for May 21 to May 23 to address several motions.
