Accused Delphi killer Richard Allen wants cameras in the courtroom, according to a motion filed Wednesday at the Carroll County Circuit Court in Indiana.
The Journal & Courier reports that Allen’s defense lawyers filed a motion Wednesday in Delphi, seeking “news cameras and public broadcastings” inside the court for the pretrial hearings and the trial.
“The facts and circumstances surrounding this case have attracted the attention of the public on a national level and even the attention of others around the globe,” the motion states.
“As a result of this attention, the system of jurisprudence in the State of Indiana will be scrutinized in a manner that is unusual and rare in Indiana courts.”
As CrimeOnline reported, the Delphi Double Homicide Task Force took Allen into custody on October 28 last year at his home in Delphi, for the murders of Abigail Willims, 13, and Libby German, 14.
The victims were found murdered near the Monon High Bridge on February 14, 2017, after taking an outing to the bridge the day prior. The outing was only meant for a few hours, and when the girls failed to return, family members contacted police.
The case garnered worldwide attention, and now, Allen’s legal team wants to ensure that the public will receive legitimate information, as opposed to “biased” information, the motion states.
“A highly and effective way to do this is to proactively take steps to disseminate information in high profile/high stakes cases,” the motion continued. “This prevents interested individuals from having to search the internet looking for information about the case which may come from bias sources that substitute commentary for fact.”
The attorneys also filed an amended motion to suppress evidence from the October 13 search at Allen’s home, arguing that the warrant “made false and misleading representations with a reckless disregard for the truth.”
