Major breakthrough in shooting of gangster’s nephew as a second man is charged over concealing a serious crime and being an accessory to murder

A second man has been charged over the fatal shooting of another man in Sydney‘s southwest more than six months ago.

Rami Iskander, 23, was found with gunshot wounds in the early hours of May 14 on Belmore street and died at the scene.

Iskander is the nephew of gangland figure Mahmoud ‘Brownie’ Ahmad, who was shot dead two weeks earlier. 

The police investigation formed part of ongoing inquiries by Taskforce Erebus into several fatal shootings and criminal activities by organised crime networks across Sydney.

A 42-year-old man was charged over the shooting in October and remains before the courts.

On Wednesday a 29-year-old man was arrested in Sydney’s CBD and charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder and concealing a serious indictable offence.

Police will allege in court that the man provided direct assistance to persons involved in the incident following the murder.

He was refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday.
