A 9-year-old girl is reportedly the sole survivor of Monday’s shooting in Missouri that killed her mother and two siblings.
Coleman McIlvain, 34, allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend, Seychelle Jackson, 30, and her two kids, Kyrien Stevenson, 14, and Ushara Schaumburg, 5, before turning the gun on himself. KTVI reported that a week before the shooting, the victims’ family filed a domestic violence claim against McIlvain amid concerns of escalating violence.
According to KSDK, McIlvain had a lengthy criminal record which included charges of domestic assault with a deadly weapon and violating an order of protection. On the day of the shooting, Jackson stopped McIlvain from using the car as he had been drinking and had a revoked license.
When Jackson refused to drive him somewhere, he allegedly opened fire on the back porch.
“The 9-year-old witnessed the boyfriend pull out a firearm and shot her mom in the face,” St. Ann police chief Aaron Jimenez said, according to KSVN.
McIlvain reportedly fired at the fleeing girl seven times, striking her in the hand. He then went into the home and shot Jackson’s other two children before turning the gun on himself. KSDK reported that the two children died at the hospital.
A neighbor told KTVI that the 9-year-old ran to her after being shot.
“Someone told me to call 911, and …[the girl] ran into my arms, and she just looked at me and said, ‘I wanted to tell you, but I didn’t know how,” she recalled.

Shawntee’ Howard, Jackson’s older sister, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Jackson kicked McIlvain out of the home at some point but he returned a few days later.
“That was the last we all knew. He went out, got drunk, and came back with a gun,” Howard said.
The news outlet reported that Jackson’s surviving daughter is with her grandparents.
