8 Juveniles Arrested in Beating Death of 17-Year-Old Boy; 2 More Sought

Las Vegas Police have arrested eight juveniles for the beating death of another teenager and have asked for help identifying two more “persons of interest” seen in video of the savage beathing.

The department said on Tuesday it had arrested eight suspects, ages 13 to 17, after 17-year-old Jonathan Lewis died from injuries suffered in the November 1 fight, apparently over a pair of stolen wireless headphones and a vape pen taken from friends of Lewis, KVVU reported.

Police Lt. Jason Johansson said the parties involved in the theft agreed to meet in an alley next to Rancho High School and fight it out.

“As soon as a punch is thrown, ten subjects immediately swarm him,” Johansson said.

Johannson said the video of the beating that circulated on social media was “void of humanity.”

A passerby found Lewis unresponsive in the alley after the fight and carried him back to the school. From there, he was take to University Medical Center Southern Nevada, where doctors said he suffered “non-survivable head trauma.”

The names of the suspects have not been released because they are juveniles.

Police provided a video clip showing the two people they’re looking for and asked anyone with information to call them at 702-828-3521, or by email at homicide@lvmpd.com. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 702-385-5555, or on the internet at www.crimestoppersofnv.com.
