Mahogany Jackson

Seven people have now been arrested and charged with kidnapping and torturing a young Alabama mom before shooting her to death.

Mahogany Jackson, the 20-year-old mother of a toddler, texted family members early Sunday saying she was being held against her will and to send police, as CrimeOnline reported. But when police arrived at the location, she wasn’t there.

Jackson’s body, shot at least once, was found in an illegal dump site in southwest Birmingham before dawn on Monday.

Brandon Pope. 24; Francis Harris, 25; and Jeremiah McDowell, 18, are charged with capital murder during a kidnapping and capital murder during sodomy, AL.com reported. Giovannie Clapp, 23; Blair Green, 25; and Si’Niya McCall, 23, have each been charged with felony murder, kidnapping, and sodomy. And Teja Lewis, 26, is charged with felony murder.

Lewis and Clapp have also been charged with assault for pistol-whipping Jackson.

Police said at least part of the rape of Jackson was recorded on video, Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond said. The video, he said, played a large role in the investigation and the charges the suspects face.

Thurmond said police are withholding details of the attack to shield the family but said Jackson was taken to several different locations during the hours she was held and before she was shot to death.

“It was absolutely disgusting,” he said.

“The actions displayed by these defendants were barbaric and have no place in society,’’ said Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr. “The senseless and inhumane treatment perpetuated on young Mahogany Jackson was very disturbing and violent.”

Lewis, McCall, and McDowell were booked into jail Wednesday afternoon. The other four have not yet been booked.
