Michigan officials said on Wednesday that an 11-year-old has been charged for an alleged attack on a school bus earlier this month that left a 5-year-old injured.
The reported incident occurred on March 9 on a Northview Public Schools bus. The victim’s parents told WZZM that their son was invited to sit with older children who then repeatedly kicked him in the stomach and slammed his head into the metal window frame.
The 5-year-old boy suffered minor injuries. His parents said the bus driver did nothing to stop the attack.
“He [the victim] was just trying his hardest to fight them off, but they were just too strong,” the boy’s mother told WZZM.
The boy’s father told WOOD that his son came off the bus crying with a bruise on his head. He also claimed that some of the other students filmed the attack instead of intervening.
WZZM reported that the bus driver was placed on administrative leave following the incident. The 11-year-old was charged with assault and battery.

Video of the attack was not released due to the children’s ages.
