6 Arrested in Months-Long Georgia Child Sexual Abuse Investigation

Police in Pennsylvania are investigating the suspicious death of a 24-year-old woman found dead on Monday in the stairwell of her home.

An application for a search warrant said possibly ligature marks were found on Haley Mills’ neck and that money was strewn about the home, The Republican Herald reported.

Pennsylvania State Police have taken over the investigation, and a trooper told the newspaper that the death is “definitely suspicious” but that “we do believe this is an isolate incident, and there is no current threat to the public.”

Police said a family friend appeared to have the last person to see Mills alive, having spent New Year’s Day with her. He said she appeared to be “dope sick,” suffering from some kind of withdrawal. He left, he told investigators, between 5 and 6 p.m. on January 2, noting that she appeared “fine” at the time.

He went back to the home on Monday at the request of family members and called 911 when he found her.

Investigators said the scene was in “disarray,” consistent with a struggle, Eastern Progress reported.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, but deputies on the scene on Monday said she appeared to have been dead for about 48 hours.
