2 Women Found Dead Near Alaska Highway Were Murdered, Troopers Say

Two women found dead near an Alaska highway after one of them called 911 were murdered, according to state police investigating the case.

State troopers began investigating the case on May 24 after Sunday Powers, 30, was reported missing shortly after she made that 911 call, the Alaska Department of Public Safety said.

Troopers began searching along the Parks Highway corridor between Fairbanks and Anchorage, where Powers was believed to be traveling. Troopers found Powers’ vehicle last week in the Trapper Creek area, south of Denali State Park. They also found Powers’ body, along with that of another woman, identified as 34-year-old Kami Clark.

“Investigators believe that Sunday and Kami were both murdered based on evidence at the scene,” the Department of Public Safety said.

Police did not say why Powers called 911 or what she said to dispatchers. They also didn’t say how Powers, from Fairbanks, and Clark, from Anchorage, were connected.
