Police in Kansas have arrested two teens for an acid attack on another teen last month in Wichita.
The two women, both 18, have been charged with aggravated battery, the Wichita Police Department said. They are still looking for a 16-year-old girl who also allegedly participated in the attack.
Police said they were called to report of a disturbance on May 26, but didn’t say what they found.
“The victim in this case, an 18-year-old black female, later arrived at an area hospital with second-degree burns to the face and neck believed to be caused by a suspect throwing an acidic liquid on the victim during a physical fight,” they said, adding that it was “not believed to be a random attack.”
Investigators ultimately arrested the two 18-year-old suspects on Wednesday. KWCH identified them as Ye’Kira Hollins and Tayronnia West.
While police identified the victim as 18-years-old, her family told KWCH she is 17-year-old Passion Turner.
“It was a battle between old best friends if you want to call it that,” said Paris Polite, the victim’s sister. “They were childhood best friends and it just went too far.”
