2 Alabama Juvenile Jail Employees Charged With Sexually Assaulting Inmates

Alabama authorities have arrested two Montgomery County Youth detention officers with sexually assaulting inmates at the facility.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office  announced on Thursday the arrest of Kentavious Miller, 32, for first degree sexual abuse, AL.com reported. the department said the assault took place between 7:30 p.m. ad 8 p.m. on Sunday and involved a 14-year-old boy.

Then, on Saturday, the sheriff’s office announced that Labradford Jamell Armistad, 35, had been charged with seven counts of first degree sodomy. Assistant Chief Deputy Wesley Richerson said those charges stem from the sexual assault of a juvenile in the corrections officer’s custody.

It’s not clear if the arrests involve the same boy, but Sherif Derrick Cunningham has scheduled a news conference for Monday to discuss the arrests.

“The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will continue to thoroughly investigate and prosecute anyone who abuses their power to harm those that they are responsible for protecting,’’ Richerson said. “We are grateful for the professionalism and expertise of our investigators who have worked diligently on this case.”
