18-Year-Old Charged With 3D Printing Guns at His Mom’s Day Care With 2 Teen Accomplices

Three New York teens have been arrested after authorities found a 3D printer and several plastic “ghost guns” at a home day care in East Harlem and two other locations.

Police said they seized the printer, tools, two completed firearms and one incomplete firearm from an unlocked room at the East Harlem Day Center on Tuesday, WPIX reported.

The three suspects — ages 16, 17, and 18 — have been charged with illegal firearms possession, manufacturing an assault weapon, and reckless endangerment, according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The 3D printer was found in the 18-year-old’s room in the home day care, operated by his mother.

“You have an 18-year-old with a 3D printer in his room. He’s not making little robotic toys; he’s making guns,” New York Mayor Eric Adams said.

The New York Post identified the 18-year-old as Karon Jamal Coley.

Police couldn’t say if the guns were being sold from the day care, which is now closed. It was originally licensed in 2021 and was last inspected in February, when it was cited for three document violations.

The gun bust comes nearly two weeks after four children were sickened by fentanyl exposure at a Bronx daycare, as CrimeOnline reported. One of the children — 1-year-old Nicholas Dominici — died. Four people — including the daycare’s owner and her husband — have been arrested in the case.
